CommUnity Connections: The Converge of PR, Nonprofit, Communications & Social Impact Networks will occur on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the North York Central Library (Room 101). This inspiring morning event will feature engaging discussions, career reflections, and authentic networking opportunities for professionals, students, and newcomers alike.

Hosted by Carolina Salinas, Agency Administrator at APEX Public Relations and Founder of PRofessionals & Coffee, the event will highlight the diverse experiences of professionals who have navigated the Canadian job market as immigrants and are now actively reshaping it.

The morning will start with informal networking at 9:30 a.m., followed by a panel presentation featuring five remarkable voices sharing their personal and professional journeys. Covering topics from the challenges of immigration to rising through the ranks in PR and nonprofit spaces, each speaker offers a unique story of resilience, ambition, and insight.

Carolina Salinas – Founder & Host, PRofessionals & Coffee

Carolina will kick off the session by reflecting on her immigration journey and the genesis of PRofessionals & Coffee — a community-driven initiative that empowers PR newcomers and professionals through mentorship, storytelling, and collaboration. She’ll dive into her experiences of building visibility in a new country, navigating the Canadian communications landscape, and the value of networking, volunteering, and self-advocacy.

Ruth Javier – Employment Counsellor & Career Development Professional

Sharing her personal immigration story, Ruth will speak about the hurdles she faced starting over in a new country, the transferable skills that helped her succeed, and how her journey influenced her passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion in employment counselling.

Aishwarya Sen – Account Executive, North Strategic

Aishwarya will take us inside the high-energy world of PR agencies. Her talk will explore how she broke into Canada’s competitive PR industry, the role of adaptability and digital fluency in communications today, and her strategies for staying relevant in a fast-changing media environment.

Ridhi Verma – Marketing & Communications Officer, TNG Community Services

Ridhi will share her career path in the nonprofit sector, emphasizing the importance of purpose-driven work. Luis Augusto Nobre – Communications & Social Impact Strategist
