Beyond the Hype: My 2024 Playbook for Resolutions that Stick.

Written by Amrit Kaur

“What’s a New Year’s resolution if it doesn’t outlast the sparkle of January, fading away like yesterday’s confetti?

Resolutions for some might involve eating 12 grapes under the table, wishing for good luck, or, for others, writing them down in their journal. However, for most of my life, I saw resolutions as a hyped-up concept and didn’t really set larger goals. But this has changed now; I feel it is a great concept to introduce discipline into our lives.

Resolutions help us stay on track with what we want to do. Being aimless and distracted is the worst thing we can do. Having an agenda is crucial for our personal growth, and setting up a long-term goal helps us be aware of the necessary actions to take. Taking those baby steps each day is the right way to move ahead because success doesn’t come as a genie’s wish.

Last year, I decided to move to another continent when I was just getting used to living in a different city in my home country. Well, I am not the only one. In 2023, 900,000 international students came to Canada from all over the world with one goal: to make a better living for themselves.

The past few months have been sweet-bitter but taught me to be persistent and resilient. I continue to welcome new changes, learn different things, and not get fidgety about anything.

Here are my simple 5 resolutions for this year:

  1. Set a routine: Sleep on time and wake up on time.
  2. Introduce spirituality and engage with spiritual books, podcasts, or music.
  3. Find my dream job and persistently work towards achieving it.
  4. Maintain a balanced and healthy diet.
  5. Invest time in valuable relationships and stay consistent.

I know these aren’t those fancy goals, but I only want to introduce a routine and doable activities in my life. Setting a high bar might feel overwhelming sometimes, and I don’t wish to scare myself off with huge commitments.

If you haven’t done this already, then open your notes and write it down (for all the tech lovers) or pick up your journal and pen it down.

P.S. In 2024, I am ready to face any challenges that come my way.
