Prachi Shailendra is a global business communicator with extensive experience of almost a decade as a journalist, news producer, photographer, event manager and host, digital and social media manager, website producer and a fundraiser. Having started her career as a young intern journalist at a youth magazine in Mumbai at the tender age of 18, she got the taste of the world of media, and pursued it with passion till she became a full-time producer at the age of 22 at India’s top English news channel. Soon she realized her passion for photography and started clicking for multiple non-profits promoting various causes, from women empowerment, to child rights, to education for the girl child, and LGBTQ+ rights, among others. She grew close to the causes she was capturing with her lens and moved into the realm of not-for-profits as a corporate communicator at the age of 25. As a corporate communicator, she further enhanced her skills as a storyteller by delving deep into public relations, digital media, websites, events and more. Working for multi-nationals in India, she felt that she wanted to challenge herself further in her career and explore the world beyond what she had seen so far.
And hence, at the age of 28, she immigrated to Canada as a Permanent Resident. She was adamant on making sure to not take up a “survival job” and worked hard to find a job in her professional field. With persistence and an open mind towards professional development, she bagged her first communications role in a non-profit in Toronto within 3 months of immigration. She has not looked back ever since…
Prachi has a Post-Graduate Advanced Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communications from Xavier Institute of Communications, Mumbai. She holds a Masters degree in Hindi, where her minor was Journalism and Theater. She is currently a Professional Member of IABC (International Association of Business Communicators) and IABC Toronto.
